same thing here, i have a new laptop with vista and onenote. i started using it right away for notes and a private journal, and now it is all locked up and i can’t make new notes or edit old ones. i can see them though. i hope there is a solution soon! i really like the onenote program.

I have reported a similar issue here. Still no working resolution. Basically, Vista + OneNote 2007 = no access to my shared notebooks on sharepoint.

I can see why people are so reluctant to “upgrade” to Vista. It seems nifty, but basic functionality available in XP is crippled for too many of us.

I’ve had a similar problem. I have recently bought a laptop with a Microsoft One Note 2007 trial and I created a notebook. But now One Note has locked, it won’t let me create any new notebooks, edit existing ones or do anything at all. I don’t think I use SharePoint and it won’t let me sync. Is there any way I can get it working again without losing the notebook?

The OneNote notebook is hosted on a hosted SharePoint server on the web – designed to support multiple connections simultaneously.

The problem is getting Vista to work the way XP works.

Hi Richard,

I’m not sure I can help but here are two comments….

1. Are you trying to access the OneNote notebook from the second (“another”) machine whilst you are still using it on the first machine?

If you are, then perhaps OneNote is not able to support simultaneous access to a notebook from two different PCs.

2. You may need to set permissions on the shared notebook so that access is allowed from your Vista Business PC.

Also, you may need to take care in setting permissions. Often permissions need to be set to allow access for the OneNote files (eg MyNotes.one) AND the folder containing the files and the folder containing that folder etc…

If I had the problems you describe this is where I would start. Hope it helps.

I wonder if this is related to a problem I’m having with Vista.

I am using OneNote 2007 and have a shared Notebook on Sharepoint.

The shared notebook is accessible from OneNote 2007 on XP, but not from another machine running OneNote 2007 on Vista Business. However, I can browse to the OneNote notebook on that machine and am offered a login/password challenge – which is correct.

Using Add Network Place or the connect to OneNote notebook link that OneNote provides just throws up the message “the folder name is not valid”

I have no idea what Webdav is but it seems my problem is very similar (found this through Google – VISTA – Can’t use HTTP Web Folders (WebDav).

What can I do?

a. I don’t see any Explorer Window when using OneNote – where might I find it!

b. Here is the hyperlink for my current successfully working (!) notebook:

a. Please navigate to the section/notebook in explorer and send me the link from the explorer window.

b. Right-click on the notebook in OneNote and choose to ‘copy hyperlink to this notebook’. Please send me this hyperlink address too.

I hope to answer your questions….

I run OneNote on a single Vista PC. The OneNote notebook resides on the same PC.

No other PC is ioncvolved and I do not host the notebook on a separate server PC!

The version is listed as OneNote 2007 (12.0.4518.1014) MSO (12.0.6017.5000).

Can you elaborate on the location of the notebook? Any clarification on the following lines will help

a. Kind of server thats hosting the locked notebook
b. OS used
c. OneNote version
