Driver_Power_state_Failure on Vista system following Roxio removal – Partial Solution

I have had a difficult time with Roxio’s software on my Dell Vista system.

I had found pretty clear evidence that Roxio software causes NTFS file corruption in the event of a system crash. So I removed the Roxio software (see ).

However then whenever I shutdown I get a long delay followed by a “Driver_Power_State_Failure” blue screen. I do some research on this and find other users have had the same problem. The solution seems to centre on some UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry entries.

I tried to remove these manually without success.

Partial Solution

I track down a Roxio KnowledgeBase Article. I try their “PowerStateFail utility. But alas the utility is XP only. But all is not lost, I run the utility in Vista compatibility mode and run as administrator. This allows it to run.

This seems to fix the problem mostly.

I recently installed some Microsoft updates. Following this the crash problem re-appeared. So I re-ran the fix and it has gone away again.
